KMBA Coronavirus/COVID-19 UPDATE

Temporary Suspension of KMBA Activities

Kitchener Minor Baseball has been continuing to monitor the ongoing Novel Coronavirus pandemic. At KMBA, the health and safety of our players, coaches, and their families is always our top priority. To keep our players and their families safe and to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 within our community, KMBA has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all KMBA activities. This will be effective from March 13, 2020 until April 5, 2020.

The following activities are affected by this suspension:

  1. ALL team practices and conditioning sessions, regardless of activity or location
  2. All development programs including Playball & Blue Chip sessions and Panthers Pipeline
  3. All tryouts (e.g. Select)
  4. All team social events (e.g. team dinners, team social activities, etc.)

We understand that many of you will be very disappointed by this news, as are we (both as administrators and as the parents of players). Rest assured that this decision was not made lightly. It was made only after extensive discussion, research, and review of recommendations from governmental Public Health organizations. Based on the scientific evidence available, the importance of social distancing is abundantly clear. Congregating in groups of any size for KMBA activities has the potential to put our players, coaches, families, and community at risk. As such, we must do our part to protect each other and curb the spread of this illness.

This decision will be reviewed the week of March 30, 2020 and we will provide an update on any possible extension on April 3, 2020. In the meantime, we will be working with our partners to arrange for our teams’ continued training as soon as we are able to resume regular operations. Teams who are found to be in non-compliance with this safety decision will be subject to disciplinary action.

Please continue to monitor yourselves for symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms present themselves, please follow Health Canada’s recommended procedures.

In order to keep our entire baseball community as healthy as possible, we also ask that you advise KMBA as a courtesy if any player, coach, or someone close to them, exhibits these symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of your last team interaction. You can do so by clicking the link below to complete our reporting form.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,
